Carroll County Arts Council, Main St., Westminster, MD
January 21, 2010 - 6pm
I'm pretty sure this starts at 6pm. I can't be trusted with numeric information. But I remember your birthday, so that's ok. They say "Don't shit where you eat." This is why I don't read in York or Westminster. But I'm going to be helping to launch a series in my old hometown, and I can't say no to the lovely folks at CCAC. It's a quickie read, but I'm reading in the first "real" reading there this Feb. The lineup is:** Kevin Thornton* Danuta Kosk-Kosika* Christina Collins Smith* Suze Thornton* Darcell Harris* Me* You* Alan Bogage** I hope the series is a great success for many years to come. Show up & we'll crack a champaign bottle over the lectern.

A Bar in Mt. Vernon
Wednesday, December 16, 2009
Mark Sanders is kicking off a new series at a bar NEXT TO the Irish bar in Mt. Vernon. You know the place. Mark wants a blast for the bar's literary debut, so it's me and you and Cliff Lynn, which is just fucking hilarious at this point because I only just met Cliff, like, four months ago and now we don't go a week without hearing him read. Oh, I was unsuccessful with the no swearing. I have no idea what time this thing is. Call me Wednesday, December 16 & I should have some idea.

Hope you can make it!

Stillwater Poetry Festival
September 13
This is about the most perfect reading I've been to. Spend the day catching up with Jerry, Julye, Craig & Heather, eat some weird central-PA food, kick it up with a sweet blues band and then watch the stars make a halo around Joe Weil. All day wonderful. Important advice: when you're driving up to Stillwater, if you're low on gas, do not pass up the next station!!

York Fest (I think that's what it's called)
Saturday, August 29, 2009
There's this play I'm doing that Gerry Meisenhelter wrote a while back - it's a framework for four persona readings. My persona reading is, of course, Gerry Meisenhelter. Come out just to watch Carol Clark Williams cry. We all miss Gerry very much. In the evening at the Emporium, I'm giving a reading right after Jim Warner. 5:00 p.m. Please leave your kids in the car for this. It's gonna be a throwdown.

Zu Cafe, Annapolis
Friday, August 28, 2009
Clearly I cannot be trusted to update this page. I'm missing a bunch of readings in here, and this reading happened last night. It was fun, lemme tell you. Jeff Rath made the trip with me (and read beautifully). The place was full of smart, fun people. My favorite part of the night was the reading of If You Have a Small Farm. Thanks so much to Robert Bly, Joe Weil, and the incredibly adorable Adam Fitzgerald. Thanks also to Rocky & Cliff & Zu for hosting.

Donatucci Reading in Philly
Wednesday, May 28, 2008
Here you go, right off the web: On Wednesday May 28th at 6 pm, The Donatucci Reading Series hosted by Diane Sahms Guarnieri features poets Barbara DeCesare and G Emil Reutter. The reading will be held at 1935 Shunk Street, Philadelphia, Pa.19145 . Library number is 215-685-1755 The tragic poems of Barbara DeCesare explore a world in which some of us feel too much, some of us feel too little, and most of us vary between these two states, uncertain how to feel or how to deal with the burdens and horrible confusions of love and life. These are poems of jealousy and rage, adoration and devotion, and the way the lines between these states blur. Barbara is the author of Jigsaw Eyesore, Silent Type and the CD titled Adrift. G Emil Reutter has authored six collections of prose and poetry, most recently a collection titled “Broken Shells and Hope” released in February of 2008.

May 3, 2008
Unless you've been, there's no way for you to get the visual. Maybe you can imagine the kind of back meeting room a 1950's Kiwanis Club gathered in, with drop celings and paneling. Now fill that room with 40+ drunk writers and tons of cigarette smoke. This is the finest reading I've been to in a long time & I'm thrilled to be featured there in May.

The Stoop - Storytelling Project
Center Stage, Calvert Street, Baltimore - February 11, 2008
The theme is Family Secrets. Apparently some other storytellers are going to be revisiting murder and molestation because when I said I'd tell the family secret story of the Pot Muffins, she was thrilled for the levity. This is a great event, a lot of fun, and WELL worth the cost of admission. Just don't tell my folks I told this story in public.

January 5, 2008
This already happened. I didn't read any poems, but I did get to drink absinthe for the first time. The reading was wonderful. Joe Weil kicked all ass. Jennifer Diskin, Eric Wilson and JamesCrane were swell as well. Can't recall the feature, I'm sad to say.

This should be a blast. A whole day of your favorite Baltimore and Baltimore-based writers. I get introduced as a girl from DC, from Philly, from anywhere, and while I've never lived in Baltimore proper (and don't even live in MD anymore) Baltimore is where I cut my teeth on poems. It's home to me. When you hear these great Balty writers, you'll know why I'm claiming it.

My class is entitled What We Talk About When We Talk About What we Talk About When We Talk About Love. Here is the description from the catalog: In this workshop, we'll delve into the secrets of character and dialog that work magic throughout Raymond Carver's landmark collection of stories "What We Talk About When We Talk About Love." We'll examine the literary condition that made Carver's voice so distinct and so welcome, and we'll also undertake exercises in recovering important characters from our own lives; ones we haven't thought about in many years. And yes, I'm paranoid about teaching here. Again.

Keyport, NEW JERSEY!
January 8, 2006
I know you're not going, but I'll be thinking of you as I head out to somewhere in Keyport, NJ to read poetry to strangers. What kind of fucked up hobby is this? If you do show, be a doll and bring mommy som valium, ok?

Multi-Voice Reading at the Bowery Poetry Club
Saturday, November 5, 2005
This already happened & I forgot to put it up. I'm putting it up now just to remind myself how cool it was to participate in this. It's times like this reading that I realize I write poems because I can't paint or sing. Art exists outside of language, so using language to create art is, well... Regardless, it was a kick ass reading.

Best/Worst Thing Ever
July 21 - August 5
Those of you who know me are aware of my strong ambivalence (no, not an oxymoron, moron)to the Dreamhouse production running in NYC this summer based on poems I wrote (see These songs/poems are from the worst times of my life. The thing is, the music is fabulous, the direction is perfect, the show itself is wonderful and I want you to support it. I really do. I just don't look forward to hearing about my hideous first marriage ever again - in spoken word or in song. But you should go and then you can tease me about it. for tickets.

Camping with Tarpaulin Sky
July 15, 16 & 17, 2005 - in the woods of upstate NY
First of all, if you haven't been reading Tarpaulin Sky, have at it: It's a Blair Witch style weekend as artsy folks try to network by an open fire. There will be weenies, folks, I'm sure. But editor Christian Peet and his lovely co-host Elena Georgiou are fabulous company, showered or not. I can't wait to see what happens when artistic temperment and lack of plumbing meet in the wilds of upstate NY!

National Federation of State Poetry Societies Convention
Sunday, June 19, 2005
Shit, I HOPE that's their name. Anyway, I'm hosting a workshop & giving a reading this day. It is my understanding that the contingency from Utah has high moral standards. Each of you will have a twenty minute spot for a slam performance, followed by a signing at the table. OK - so I am slamming for TWENTY MINUTES at a Barnes & Noble?? That's like hiring strippers with strap-ons for Walt Disney World. Obviously you don't want to miss Barnes & Noble executives having a bad case of the shits when they realize what they've done. I'm thinking about just reciting Beastie Boys lyrics.
